In 1997 the National Film and Television School, the United Kingdom's premier media education institution, founded CREATEC, a research and development division with a mission to 'invent the future for the UK’s digital media'.
After our three years of government funding ran out, the researchers at CREATEC, as well as its intellectual property were transferred into Anthropics, which was initially funded by UK angel investors. After that, Anthropics received VC funding from a number of sources and is now a ‘stand alone’ profitable fast growing company.
Our research and development has always been in digital human representation and animation, and over the past 10 years we have developed world leading expertise in this area. Initially we mined our knowledge base to develop animation software for mobile communications, which was taken up by Nokia, Vodafone and other large mobile communication companies.
More recently, due to its commercial success, our research and development has concentrated more or less exclusively on our Portrait Professional ‘intelligent beautification’ software, and further developments along the same lines.
